About Us
History of Hal Hunt Auctions
Hal Hunt is a native of Louisiana. He was raised in the small town of Zachary, Louisiana which is north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hal comes from a family of ancestors that began as horse traders. The transition from horse trading to furniture was attributed to his great uncle Allen L. Hunt, who in 1950 began a small family business in Zachary, La. selling and trading used furniture, antiques, animals, hardware, vegetables, tractors, etc. Hal's father, Harry Hunt, Sr. became established in the antique auction business in the 1970's. Hal and his 2 younger brothers worked with Harry in the business. Hal began auctioneering at the young age of 9. In the 1980's in Lafayette, Louisiana the Hunt's continued in the antique auction business and also expanded into the direct import of antique reproductions. Hal is the 3rd Generation in the Antique Auction and Import business. Hal has been in the antique auction and import business all his life but officially since 1986. Hal decided in December 2000, to expand his part of the family business to a new location. An opportunity became available in Northport, Alabama and Hal Hunt Auctions had it's first auction New Year's Day - January 1st, 2001. Hal and is wife and 3 girls traveled back and forth between Lafayette, Louisiana and Northport, Alabama continuing to have auctions. With great support from the wonderful communities of Northport and Tuscaloosa, Alabama and lots of prayers to God, Hal and his family decided in January 2002 to permanently move his business and family to Northport, Alabama. Hal's father - Harry Hunt, Sr. of Lafayette, La. owned and operated Ace Auction Company and Ace Wholesale until his passing in September of 2013 - He will forever be missed by his family and peers. Hal's 2 younger brothers - Rod Hunt & Billy-Bob Hunt continue to do business in Lafayette, La.
In 2001, we began our High- End American Antique Auctions, which later became known as our Annual February Museum Auction. These Auctions have provided the opportunity to sell lifetime collections of high-end antiques and have inspired avid antique collectors to travel from all over the country to Northport, Alabama. Buyers have appreciated the chance to see, touch, and buy great antiques - all in one day and one location, just as we like to say "the old school way". For that, we are truly grateful for the consistent participation, excitement and support our customers have brought to the auction room over the years. February 2026 was the Final Show - Last Annual February Museum Auction -
